Job Description

The purpose of a School Counsellor (Career Guidance) is to implement a competitive school counselling program (focusing on Career Guidance) that promotes students’ success, to ensure equitable access to opportunities (including beyond SCIA) and rigorous curriculum for all students, and to collaborate with parents, teachers, community organizations and other stakeholders in order to help students prepare for academic achievement, ensure career readiness and develop personal or social competencies through a comprehensive, preventive and developmental counselling program. The goal is to ensure that students will become productive and well-adjusted adults.

The school Counsellor (Career Guidance) reports to Department Head, Student Welfare and is responsible for:

Job purpose

  • To guide the development and implement a competitive school counselling program that focuses on and promotes students’ success
  • To value and respond to the diversity and individual differences of students
  • To ensure equitable access to opportunities and rigorous curriculum for all students
  • To provide direct support services through structured conventions
  • To evaluate areas of strength (KSAOs) and advocate students
  • To conduct career guidance sessions in class to G7 and above
  • To provide group or individual responsive services
  • To collaborate and consult with parents, teachers, community organisations and other stakeholders
  • To perform assessments, interpret tests and study students’ personality and aptitudes
  • To gather and analyse data to measure results
  • To complete regular reports on progress
  • To work hand in hand with School Counsellor (Social & Emotional)

        1. Academic Education / Training / Experience
  • Proven working experience in school counselling
  • Integrity and professionalism
  • Advocacy skills
  • Ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse student pool
  • Working knowledge of various counseling models, practices and resources
  • Engaging interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills
  • Ability to collect and analyse data
  • Computer literacy
  • Sound judgement and emotional intelligence
  • BA / MA degree in School Counselling / Clinical Psychology / or other relevant majors
